The rivers, streams, lakes and tarns of the Lake District offer a wide choice of freshwater fishing for coarse and game fish.
Windermere has Arctic charr, brown trout, pike, perch, roach and eels as well as Salmon and sea trout passing through the lake to spawn in the tributaries. Derwent Water
contains perch, pike , roach and brown trout. Only fly fishing methods are allowed. Crummock Water and Buttermere both contain trout, char, pike and perch.
Some of the fishing is free. For some waters you need to purchase a day or weekly permit. All anglers need to buy a 'rod licience' which can be bought from tourist information centres, tackle shops or the post office. Tackle shops will also provide more information on local fishing and permits.
